Do not let “unintentional” actions threaten others’ safety
Despite being an essential part of each flight, personal entertainment screens are sometimes cracked and scratched due to incidents and unexpected impacts, leading to a reduction in VNA’ service quality.
In 2019, VNA had to replace 69 screens on Airbus 350s, and Boeing 787s to preserve the aesthetic aspect and the service quality for passengers on VNA’ flights. Statistics showed that the repair and replacement costs of these entertainment screens are not cheap, ranging from $1,000 – $1,500 per screen.
Passengers’ failure to comply with the cabin crew’s instructions and VNA’ regulations are often the reasons for material damage on the plane. One of the preventable causes of device damage is the “carefree spirit” of some passengers. Even though the passengers are only allowed to use the entertainment screens once the plane reaches cruising altitude, many of them keep pressing the screen power button right after they get on the plane, causing the device to fail. In addition, some passengers tend to be too “carefree” by doing things such as resting their feet on the seat in front of them and using electronic devices against the instructions of the cabin crew – resulting in property damage and failure.

Therefore, in addition to replacing damaged devices to avoid affected service quality, VNA has been strengthening communication to raise passengers’ awareness of correctly using devices on the plane. Despite the severe punishment for violations, it is up to the passengers to study the information and regulations to improve their compliance in reducing the risk of damage for the plane and the airline. With just a little extra attention, passengers can enjoy wonderful experiences not only for themselves but also for others.
