VNA and Lufthansa Technik AG sign APU HGT1700 maintenance contract

On August 16, 2018, VNA and Lufthansa Technik AG have signed an Auxiliary Power Units (APU) maintenance service contract for the carrier’s growing Airbus A350 fleet.

The signing ceremony was held under the witness of Deputy Minister of Transport of Vietnam Nguyen Ngoc Dong, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hanoi Wolfgang Manig and Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam Vo Huy Cuong. The airline is incorporating industry-leading advances to ensure maximum level of safety and efficient operations that comply with international aviation safety standards.  

CEO Duong Tri Thanh welcomed the delegation of Lufthansa Technik before the signing ceremony.

VNA's A350s are equipped with Honeywell's HGT1700 APU, which have been developed to match the operational requirements of the A350 XWB. The three-year contract will encompass maintenance services for the airlines’ 10 APU. VNA is currently operating 12 Airbus A350s globally, with two more joining the fleet next year. This state-of-the-art aircraft is among the world’s most modern, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly.

EVP Dang Ngoc Hoa and Mr. Gerald Steinhoff – Vice President of Lufthansa Technik AG signed the contract in the presence of Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong, Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of GermanyWolfgang Manig, Deputy Deputy Director of Civil Aviation Administration Vo Huy Cuong and leaders of VNA.

Mr. Duong Tri Thanh- CEO and President of VNA said, "This contract is of great significance for both parties, which will further strengthen the results-driven partnership between Vietnam Airlines and Lufthansa Technik.”

We believe that Lufthansa Technik will deliver its world-class technical competencies ensuring smooth operation of Vietnam Airlines' Airbus A350 fleet on our long-haul flights,” he continued.

Dr. Johannes Bussmann, CEO & Chairman of the Executive Board of Lufthansa Technik AG said, "We are proud to be cooperating with Vietnam Airlines- a member of SkyTeam Alliance- to provide maintenance services of its Airbus A350 fleet to deliver absolute safety and offer passengers with the most outstanding flying experience.

The cooperation helps VNA increase efficiency in the technical field, ensuring safety for flights.

Additional information

Lufthansa Technik will provide services for the APU which is a source of electric power to start the main engine of the aircraft and external air-conditioning unit. In addition, APU is available as back-up power in flight in the unlikely event of a power failure.
