VNA, Saigontourist Group, and Thien Minh Group organize trade, investment, and tourism promotion between Vietnam and the US

Within the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the United States, on May 17, VNA cooperated with Saigontourist Group and Thien Minh Group to organize a Trade – Investment – Tourism Promotion Conference between Vietnam and the United States in San Francisco.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the event and witnessed organizations and businesses of the two countries exchanging memorandums of cooperation (Cre: VNA).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, U.S. Ambassador in Vietnam Marc E. Knapper, and the leaders of San Francisco City attended the event and witnessed the handover of the Memorandums of Understanding by the organizations and enterprises of the two countries. 
 
With the topic “Rediscovering Vietnam”, the Conference conveyed the message of Vietnam’s recovery, opening, and strong development after two years of the pandemic, as well as the prospect of good relations between Vietnam and the United States in the future. 
 
“The Conference is an opportunity for U.S. partners to learn about Vietnam’s typical investment opportunities, strong products, and typical aviation and tourism services. This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to directly meet, exchange, and connect investment, trade, and tourism with U.S. partners.” – Mr. Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of VNA said.
 
The event introduced to a large number of U.S. partners and consumers about outstanding agricultural products of Vietnam. People’s Committee of Bac Giang Province, VNA, and U.S. partners have signed a Memorandums of Understanding on promotion of export and consumption of lychee and agricultural products of Bac Giang Province. 
At the conference, VNA introduced the United States – Vietnam direct route, assisting in quickly connecting trade and tourism between the two countries. Currently, the national airline operates 4 flights per week between San Francisco and Ho Chi Minh City, using modern wide-body aircraft Airbus A350, and Boeing 787, with 4-star service quality, and 5-star service. VNA is expected to increase the frequency of regular nonstop flights to the United States daily by 2023 and is studying to open a cargo route between Ho Chi Minh City and Los Angeles.

Saigontourist Group emphasized the advantage of owning hundreds of hotels, resorts, restaurants, entertainment areas, golf courses, high-class conference centers, and a large network of cruise ship partners in the United States. Saigontourist welcomes and serves hundreds of thousands of U.S. visitors, bringing in thousands of billions of dong in revenue annually. Saigontourist Group will continue to invest in and improve tourism products and services, especially products that are popular with US visitors, such as Premium Travel, Beach Tourism, and Wellness Tourism. Mr. Pham Huy Binh – Chairman of Saigontourist Group affirmed: “Saigontourist Group will take full advantage of the strength of its partner network in the United States and North America, contribute to promoting tourism in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City, accelerate recovery and increase tourist attraction from these markets. We have carefully prepared to achieve this goal when the group has been opening for business under normal conditions during that time”.
 
According to Thien Minh Group, now is the most favorable time to strengthen the presence of Vietnam’s trade, aviation, and tourism in the United States. At the event, Thien Minh Group promoted tourism products and services with the highest level of environmental, natural, and social sustainability, and introduced that iVIVU.com, a member of Thien Minh, will provide tours to the United States for Vietnamese customers looking for unique and private experiences from summer 2022. Based on the competence of high-class cruise fleets, chain of hotels, premium resorts, and unique seaplane service to contemplate Ha Long Bay in Vietnam, Mr. Tran Trong Kien, Chairman of Thien Minh Group affirmed: “The safest, most sustainable, and creative experiences that Thien Minh Group offers will give U.S. visitors unforgettable memories of a safe, beautiful, creative and captivating Vietnam.”
 
In addition, Vietnamese enterprises exchanged with U.S. partners about potential goods and services that can be imported to Vietnam, and business investment opportunities in the United States. Saigontourist Group, Thien Minh Group, and VNA handed over the Memorandum of Understanding with many important U.S. travel partners.

Over the years, the trade relationship between Vietnam and the United States has developed very actively. Since the normalization of relations in 1995, the bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and the United States in 2021 has reached more than USD 111 billion, an increase of about 250 times, despite the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States is an important export market for many key Vietnamese products, such as agriculture, forestry, fishery, textiles, footwear, etc. Vietnam also imports billions of dollars of goods and services each year from the United States, typically including machinery, electronic equipment, agricultural products, and transportation, tourism, and technology services. Investment between the two countries has progressed well with large projects already being implemented in the fields of energy, technology, manufacturing, healthcare, education, etc.

In addition to trade, investment, and tourism promotion, the Conference also marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a representative office of the Vietnamese flag carrier – VNA in San Francisco City, United States. This is an important milestone in the continuous development and growth of VNA in particular and Vietnamese aviation in general.

With the promotion efforts from both countries for decades, the number of passengers from the United States to Vietnam and vice versa is growing strongly. In 2019, the number of passengers from the United States to Vietnam reached more than 746,000, and the average growth rate in the period 2014 – 2019 was 11%. The period from the first regular direct flight on November 28, 2021, until now, the total number of passengers transported by VNA on two-way flights between the United States and Vietnam has reached more than 15,000, and many flights have an occupancy rate of over 80%. In the first four months of 2022, the total volume of goods transported by VNA on two-way flights between the United States and Vietnam reached nearly 100 tons, an increase of more than 61% compared to the same period in 2019.
