Airlines in Vietnam increase aircraft fleet

Data from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) shows that the number of aircraft registered in Vietnam amounted to 175 as of September, up 14% year-on-year.

The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, topped the list with 89 jetliners, including 11 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, 12 Airbus A350s, three Airbus A330s, 57 Airbus A321s and six ATR72s, followed by Vietjet Air, which owns 56 aircraft with 33 Airbus A321s and 23 Airbus A320s.

Jetstar Pacific took third place with 17 Airbus A320 aircraft. The remaining airplanes belonged to Vasco; Vietstar Airlines; Green Planet Technology Co., Ltd; Hai Au Aviation Joint Stock Company; and Aerospace Engineering Services Joint Stock Company.

In addition to passenger aircraft, the number of helicopters registered in Vietnam was 29 in the year to late July, up one unit year-on-year.

The Vietnamese aviation market was on an upward trend over the first half of 2018, with 150,000 flights operated by Vietnam’s carriers, rising by 9% year-on-year, according to CAAV. These flights transported some 25 million passengers, up 15% against the same period last year.

In the local market, Vietnam’s four carriers, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific and VASCO, currently operate 47 domestic air routes linking HCMC, Hanoi and Danang and 18 local airports.
