In the afternoon of 6th January, a ceremony to launch Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 was held at the Government Office in Ha Noi.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ministry, Head of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee Pham Binh Minh, and leaders of ministries, agencies and international organizations.

In 2020, Viet Nam will be honored to take on major roles at both regional and international level, notably the ASEAN Chairmanship. Speaking at the launching ceremony, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said: “This is a chance for Viet Nam to contribute further to the development of a harmonious, resilient, innovative, cohesive, unique, responsible and adaptive ASEAN community.”

PM Phuc also expressed his desire: As “ASEAN citizens”, each Vietnamese citizen, through practical actions, shall spread the image of a peace-loving, friendly, and hospitable Viet Nam which welcomes all partners with open arms.   

As the national flag carrier, VNA acts as the sponsor for Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2020 and connects Viet Nam’s economy, politics, commerce, investment, culture, etc. to the region and the world.

Over the past years, VNA has opened new direct flight routes to major cities in Southeast Asia to meet the increasing travel demand between Viet Nam and other countries in the region. In the context of integration, the launch of these flight routes has also helped attract investors, entrepreneurs, and tourists, as well as facilitated the Vietnamese in reaching destinations with opportunities for tourism, investment, economic and business cooperation.
