Rodrigue is acting as sales and marketing executive for Vietnam Airlines French Office since one year ago, and Vy is a fashion designer working in Paris. They met in 2018 through common friends and rapidly engaged into a serious relationship. Comes November 2018, they moved together and started a common life.

Rodrigue’s long interest in Asian cultures, along with Vy’s cultural understanding, eased the process a little but some challenges remained in the beginning. For example, Vy’s parents don’t speak English at all, so they could only communicate with Rodrigue via Vy or with sign language. Or when the first time Rodrigue tried to speak Vietnamese, instead of saying “con thích ăn mẹ nấu” he just said “con thích ăn mẹ”. Through mature and caring behaviours, their relationship grew stronger with time. To further deepen Rodrigue’s knowledge of Vietnamese culture, the couple embarked on a one-month trip to Vietnam between December 2018 and January 2019. On the long run, it proved very valuable and eye-opening in the perspective of living together forever.
Having two very distinct professional lives also brings a touch of variety by fuelling their respective interests to one-another’s profession. Given that Vy is a remarkable cook, and Rodrigue fell deeply in love with Vietnamese cuisine, Vy is master chef at home and Rodrigue is…master dishwasher J. Being a young couple without kids (yet!), their schedule is less dense so they can share the same passion for travelling and explore various countries, they try to cease any opportunity to fly together.

Furthermore, motivated by professional goals and personal reasons, Rodrigue started Vietnamese classes after work to both enhance his comprehension of his working environment and Vy’s family.
The knowledge about Vietnam and Vietnamese culture that Rodrigue learned from Vy helps him a lot while working for Vietnam Airlines. Like a fish in the water, he’s very passionate about his works, expanding his knowledge about Vietnam and contributing to the development of Vietnam Airlines – his lover’s country carrier.
Finally, after more than one year of common life, they took their love one step further by committing themselves through a civil-union. We are happy for them and look forward to a weeding very soon.
