The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flew its first commercial flight back in 2011, followed by the longer Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in 2014.

Both aircraft proved popular with airlines thanks to their efficiency as mid-size, long-haul passenger jets.

It wasn’t longer before airlines began requesting an even longer version of the 787-9. Singapore Airlines approached Boeing in 2013, requesting 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, enough for Boeing to agree to commence production of the type.

Singapore Airlines

As a result of its order for 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, Singapore Airlines became the launch customer for the type.

Singapore Airlines received the first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, now registered 9V-SCA, on 25 March 2018.

The airline chose to fit the aircraft with 301 economy seats and 36 business class seats, for an overall total of 337 seats.

Of its initial order of 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, Singapore Airlines has currently received 15 aircraft.

The airline added a further 14 aircraft to its initial order of 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, with 29 still to be delivered.

As always with Singapore Airlines, the reviews of the airline’s new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners have been fantastic so far.

Etihad Airways

Another early customer of the Boeing 787-10 which has already received a number of aircraft is Etihad Airways.

Etihad was, in fact, the second operator of the Boeing 787-10, entering the type into service on 12 November 2018.

Etihad’s total order for the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner is smaller than Singapore Airlines’, at just 30 units. The airline has currently received 7 aircraft.

For Etihad, the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner’s cabin experience was one of its main selling points.

Back when the airline received its first 787-10 Dreamliner, it boasted that it had “the most highly customised Dreamliner cabins in the world.”

United Airlines

Third in line to receive the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner was United Airlines. On 5 November 2018, United received the first of a total order of 14 of the type.

It now has 10 in the air, each fitted with its Polaris business class seats. Interestingly, United became the first airline in the world to operate all three of the 787 Dreamliner models when the 787-10 Dreamliner entered service with the airline back in March.

Other operators

All Nippon Airways and KLM, EVA Airways, Saudia and Vietnam Airlines also received their first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners in 2019.

But there is another customer preparing itself for its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner in the coming months.

The delivery of British Airways’ first 787-10 Dreamliner is imminent as it is set to receive its first aircraft in January. If you haven’t got the chance to fly on a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner yet, there are now quite a few options out there.
