Big achievements
Since 1975, Aircraft Maintenance Factories A75, A76 and the Technical Department of VNA Central Region began to provide comprehensive MRO services to all VNA aircraft.
The preparation for the official operation of VAECO has gone through many stages. The establishment of VAECO follows Decision 1276 / QD-TTg dated September 26, 2006, of the Prime Minister on merging and restructuring the above units. Then the registration of maintenance organization was approved on October 1, 2008. After that, under approval No. VN-268/CAAV, VAECO became a subsidiary of VNA and officially came into operation on January 1, 2009, following the standards of the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam.
Aircraft Maintenance Factories A75, A76 and the Technical Department of VNA Central Region began to provide comprehensive MRO services to all VNA aircraft (Cre: VAECO).
Nowadays, with 6 hangars, VAECO can perform maintenance work for two wide-body aircraft and seven narrow-body aircraft at the same time. VAECO is currently approved by the CAAV to become an independent maintenance organization in compliance with the Aviation Safety Code Part 5.
VAECO has also been approved as a maintenance organization (Cre: VAECO).
More importantly, VAECO has also been approved as a maintenance organization according to Part 145 by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and more than 20 aviation authorities all over the world such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, and so forth, VAECO can now perform C check and D check for many types of aircrafts, including the modern Airbus A350 and the Boeing B787.
In addition to providing MRO services for all of VNA’s aircraft, VAECO also provides services for more than 60 customers including domestic and international carriers such as ANA, AF, CI, KE, etc. Revenue from providing services to external customers sees steady annual growth and accounts for 17-20% of the total revenue of the Company.
Human development strategy
One of the important factors for VAECO’s success is its high-quality human resources. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, VAECO Deputy General Director, said: “One of VAECO’s development goals is to improve our own human capital. VAECO Training Center is fully equipped with world-class training capabilities both theoretically and practically and can conduct basic training and aircraft conversion for technical staff.”
One of the important factors for VAECO’s success is its high-quality human resources (Cre: VAECO).
With a workforce of more than 2,600 employees in which 1,300 engineers and technicians are certified by Vietnamese authorities, EASA (Europe) and FAA (USA), VAECO can meet the demand of VNA and regional carriers. More specifically, the Company has gradually mastered maintenance technology for 2 modern aircraft, the Airbus A350-900, and the Boeing B787-9.
After ten years in operation under the new organization, VAECO has ensured absolute safety for VNA flights and those of its partner carriers, contributing to the overall success of VNA. The company’s revenue in 2018 exceeded VND 2.400 billion, 3 times higher than the first year of establishment, contributing nearly VND 1.000 billion to the state budget.
Enter the technology era with confidence
The fourth industrial revolution has been sturdily taking place. At the same time, the continuous change of aircraft manufacturing technology and technical spare parts becomes a big challenge for carriers and maintenance facilities.
The fourth industrial revolution has been sturdily taking place (Cre: VAECO).
On one hand, VAECO still adopts advanced maintenance support systems from manufacturers (such as Airman by Airbus or AHM by Boeing) to control aircraft conditions based on the current status. On the other hand, VAECO also cooperates with Airbus to develop Skywise system, built on an open data technology platform, to integrate all aircraft data for proactive maintenance and for monitoring aircraft during operation.
In addition, VAECO is investing in the new MRO-IT system to offer the most advanced technological solutions in management and maintenance (barcode, QR code, RFID, mobile device, predictive maintenance), thereby changing the entire production process, and system administration, in-turn improving productivity and profitability with the aim to become one of the leading MROs facility in the region.
To meet the industry’s growth rate and VNA’s modernization goal, besides developing core maintenance capabilities such as off-site and wing maintenance—especially for narrow-body aircraft (A320 / B737)—VAECO, in partnership with Singapore Technologies Engineering (the world’s leading MRO group), has established the component MRO facilities named VSTEA (Vietnam Singapore Technologies Engineering Aerospace). This is the first step in helping VAECO join the market of high technology aircraft maintenance that generates high added value.
