Letter from the Group’s Board of Leadership to Staff on the 12th of March
Hanoi, 12 March 2020
Dearest colleagues,
Now is indeed a most concerning time for me to write this letter to address you all.
The world has entered the third month of the COVID-19 epidemic, which has struck 106 countries and territories and become increasingly problematic in Vietnam. Although we have foreseen and developed multiple scenarios in response, the least desirable one – any of our staff members are infected with COVID-19 – has happened.
Flight attendant D., with the highest sense of responsibility, proactively took a leave of absence on the 9th of March when she felt fatigued after serving on a flight from London to Hanoi. On the 12th of March, her first test result at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases 2 in Hanoi came back positive for Sars-CoV-2.
To the Group, and to me personally, this is very upsetting news indeed. Despite various precautionary measures taken, and the priority given to the safety of all our staff members, what we most feared happening has happened. We have been relieved that we had all remained healthy with each passing day despite constant exposure to sources of transmission – even including the epicenter of Wuhan.
Unfortunately, flight attendant D. has been infected, though we are not certain since when. Sad as it may be, this undoubtedly stands to prove the unflinching dedication of our staff members.
On behalf of the Group’s Board of Directors and staff, I would like to extend my sympathy to flight attendant D. and his/her family during this difficult time. We shall make every effort to work with his/her family, the healthcare facility, and functional departments to monitor and take care of our valued team member. With our conviction in the strength and spirit of the people of Vietnam Airlines, we hope that he/she will soon recover and rejoin the flag carrier on our flights of responsibility and pride.
Best regards,
PP. Board of Directors
President and CEO
